Bhutan

Geographically one of the world’s most isolated places, the mountain-locked Kingdom of Bhutan is an abode of Eastern mysticism and spirituality, redoubt of Himalayan Buddhism, showcase of majestic natural beauty and an almost entirely ethnic population, Bhutan has emerged from the myths of ancient and medieval history, and steadily into modernity, the present day marked by the gradual transition from monarchic rule to democratic governance. Despite its exposure and progress in the past few decades, Bhutan’s institutions and culture remain strongly traditional and the spirit of the land virtually unchanged; evident are the architectural designs in all new buildings and houses that must follow age old designs. The national costumes are worn by all Bhutanese. For the visitor, the experience of Bhutan is a true journey back in time.
